Small rituals that make a big difference in the darkest months
Let’s be honest- January isn’t the easiest month. It’s dark, cold, and can feel like a never-ending Monday. Over time, I’ve found a few small things that make it more manageable. Nothing dramatic, just simple habits that help me feel a little more human.
1. Starting the Day Right
I like to begin my day with some Wim Hof breathwork and a 10-minute YouTube meditation. Do I do it every single day? No, but even a few days a week makes a difference. It helps me feel less frazzled and gives me a moment of calm before the chaos starts.
2. Walking the Dogs
My Spaniels are my personal trainers—they get me outside no matter how bad the weather is. Even a quick walk clears my head and lifts my mood. Plus, they’re much cheaper than therapy!
3. A Good Podcast for Motivation
When I need a boost, I’ll pop in my earbuds and listen to The Mel Robbins Podcast. She’s inspiring without being preachy, and her advice always feels doable. Perfect for walks, chores, or just zoning out.
4. Little Wins, Big Impact
Small things like a hot bath with Epsom salts, a great bowl of ramen, or 20 minutes with a book can feel like tiny luxuries. It’s about creating moments that make the day feel a bit brighter.
5. One Productive Thing
I try to tick off one small task a day—tidying a drawer, making a to-do list, or running an errand. It’s nothing big, but it helps me avoid that stuck-in-January Kindness Over Perfection
I’ve stopped aiming for a perfect January and started focusing on what feels good instead. Some days it’s meditation, other days it’s chocolate—and that’s okay.
What about you? How do you get through the winter months. I’d love to hear your thoughts. Drop me a line
