WINTER SKINCARE ADVICE

Colder temperatures and lower humidity levels can have a serious impact on your skin. The cold air pulls moisture away from the skin, resulting in dryness. Winter is a time when you need to take care of your skin. Below are four ways to take care of your skin during this colder season that you can introduce to your skincare routine.

1. Still apply SPF

Yes, even in winter, you need to apply your SPF. While there may be less UVB around in winter, the levels of UVA are still significant enough to age our skin. Look for an SPF that has a high UVA rating. I recommend La Roche-Posay Anthelios Age Correct SPF50+, which contains dermatological actives to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and dark spots and improve skin elasticity.

2. Keep hydrated

When it’s colder, your skin can become more sensitive. Things like central heating can dry out the skin, so this is another reminder to stay hydrated and aim to get 2-3 litres of water per day. Another way to boost your skin's hydration is using sheet masks. Sheet masks are amazing for hydrating and smoothing skin. The Forlle’d Hyalogy P-Effect Sheet Mask - available through Elizabeth M - is the Rolls Royce of face masks, helping to improve pigmentation, soften lines, and soften wrinkles.

3. Be prepared to tweak your skincare routine

This is something that is often overlooked. As the temperature changes, you may find the products your skin demands will change, too. Often, people carry out the same skincare routine in the winter as they do in the summer. As the moisture levels adjust, it’s highly possible you will need an additional serum or a different moisturiser.

4. Layer up at nighttime

Night creams do more than just hydrate - they can also stimulate collagen production if they contain vitamin A, smooth dry patches, and promote skin cell turnover. Your skin is more receptive to absorbing active ingredients at night, making it the ideal time to give your complexion an extra boost.

Winter products

Winter is the toughest season for your skin, with cold temperatures and indoor heating leading to dryness and irritation. Here are some products I recommend: Marie Reynolds Anoint Oil and Butter Balm, Medik8’s Recovery Balm and H.E.O Mask and finally Forlled’s Sheet Masks

Winter treatments

1. As always hydration is key:

Opt for facials that deeply hydrate and nourish the skin, such as the Hydro2 facial or the Marie Reynolds Restore Facial.

2. Gentle Exfoliation:

Winter is perfect for enzyme or light acid peels, which speed up cellular turnover without stripping moisture. This ensures that your skin stays smooth and absorbs nutrients better.

3. LED Therapy:

This helps boost collagen production, reduce inflammation, and helps speed up the healing process post-treatment.

4. Repair-Focused Facials:

Treatments that help to repair the skin lipid barrier include microneedling and mesotherapy. Incorporating serums rich in ceramides and antioxidants repair and protect the skin from harsh, cold conditions.
