Autumn skincare advice
Focus on maintaining hydration as the weather cools and humidity drops. Use richer moisturisers with ingredients like hyaluronic acid or ceramides to lock in moisture. Incorporate gentle exfoliation to remove dead skin cells and improve absorption of nourishing products. Protect your skin with a broad-spectrum SPF, as UV rays can still be harmful in autumn. Also, consider adding a hydrating mask weekly and adjusting your skincare routine to address the specific needs of your skin during the seasonal transition.
treatments
In autumn, clients should focus on treatments that help maintain moisture and protect the skin from the drier, cooler weather. Some recommended treatments include:
Hydrating Facials: These facials use serums and masks rich in hyaluronic acid, glycerine, and ceramides to restore moisture.
Chemical Peels: Light peels can help remove dead skin cells, allowing for better absorption of moisturising products.
LED Light Therapy: To soothe inflammation and promote collagen production.
Microneedling: Enhances the penetration of hydrating serums and boosts collagen.
These treatments help the skin adapt to seasonal changes by keeping it hydrated and glowing.
September is peel season
As skin therapists, we often refer to September as "peel season" because it is an ideal time to start treatments that target skin concerns like sun damage, pigmentation, and redness. After summer, clients may notice increased sunspots and uneven skin tone, making autumn a good time to address these issues. Additionally, reduced sun exposure during the autumn months lowers the risk of post-treatment complications like hyperpigmentation, making it a safer time for IPL treatments and skin peels. Cooler weather also helps reduce the risk of overheating the skin, which can occur with IPL treatments and peels.
If lucky enough to have an Indian summer, we should always remember to use an SPF. If your skin is slightly dryer, you might want to switch from a cream cleanser to an oil or balm cleanser.
