How to clean your skin effectively
-
Ensure your hands are impeccably clean to avoid transferring any impurities to your face.
-
Start by removing eye makeup with a gentle yet effective eye makeup remover. Be very gentle and avoid pulling or rubbing the delicate skin around your eyes.
-
Apply an oil-based or cream-based cleanser or balm to dissolve makeup and remove surface impurities. Use your fingertips to massage the cleanser gently into your skin, breaking down makeup and sebum without disrupting your skin’s natural barrier.
Tip: Spend a full minute massaging the cleanser into your skin, focusing on areas that need extra attention, such as around the nose, chin, and jawline. Use a very soft mitt or face cloth to lift off the product in an upwards motion.
-
Use lukewarm water to rinse your face, as hot water can irritate and dry out your skin. Pat your face dry with a soft, clean towel. Avoid washing your face in the shower as the water is too hot.
-
Apply a hydration mist or toner to remove any excess oil and prepare your skin for any active treatments that follow.
Tips for Gentle Exfoliation
-
Avoid daily use of exfoliating scrubs or cleansers with beads, as they can damage your skin's outer layer. Over-exfoliation can cause irritation, breakouts, and sensitivity.
-
Look for cleansers with AHAs, BHAs, salicylic acid, lactic acid, or fruit enzymes. Allow these products to work for 60 to 90 seconds to clear pores and remove dead skin cells.
-
Stay away from cleansers with aggressive exfoliating agents to prevent damaging your skin.
-
When we exfoliate with cleansing brushes too often we can damage the skin’s acid mantel and disrupt the microbiome.
